Senior Investigator
Lee
E.
Eiden,
Ph.D.
Section on Molecular Neuroscience
Dr. Eiden received his B.A. degree in chemistry from Northwestern University in 1974. He received his Ph.D. in pharmacology from the University of Kansas in 1979, where he worked with Chip Rutledge studying the role of chromogranin A in neurotransmission.
Dr. Eiden did his postdoctoral training in the Laboratory of Clinical Sciences within the NIMH, where he studied neuropeptide biosynthesis and gene regulation with Michael Brownstein.
He became Chief of the Unit on Cellular and Molecular Neurobiology in 1986, and then Chief of the Section on Molecular Neuroscience in 1992.
Dr. Eiden's laboratory studies the regulation and function of vesicular neurotransporters, chromogranins, and neuropeptides that result in the chemical coding of neurotransmission and co-transmission, principally at the adrenomedullary synapse.
