Dr. Li Jiang received an M.D. in 1995, from China Medical University, Shenyang, China and a Ph.D. in neuroscience in 2003, from New York Medical College, New York. Dr. Jiang completed his postdoctoral training in the Center for Neurobiology and Behavior at Columbia University from 2003 to 2006. He continued for two additional years as a Research Scientist from 2006 to 2008, in Columbia University. In 2008, he moved to Stony Brook University and worked as a research scientist till 2018., then he joined UC Irvine for one year before coming to NINDS. In 2019, Dr. Jiang joined the NINDS as a Staff Scientist

Dr. Li Jiang’s primary interests are understanding the Central Nervous System neuronal mechanisms underlying memory and cognition, particularly the role of cholinergic signaling in synaptic plasticity which directly related to pathological brain disorders such as depression, epilepsy, schizophrenia and Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Jiang is interested in functional mapping of cholinergic circuits in the brain. Utilizing various cutting-edge techniques including optogenetic, chemogenetic, electrophysiological Patch-Clamp recording, fluorescence imaging and behavior assessments, Dr. Jiang investigates how altering cholinergic signaling can manipulate the memory in the genetically modified mice models.
