Investigator: Kevin Briggman, Ph.D.
Affiliation:Circuit Dynamics and Connectivity Unit
Position Type:Postdoctoral Fellowship
Description:
Postdoctoral positions are available in the Circuit Dynamics and Connectivity Unit headed by Dr. Kevin Briggman. The lab combines state-of-the-art functional recording and large-scale anatomical reconstruction techniques to understand the computations performed by circuits in the initial stages of sensory processing using a variety of vertebrate and invertebrate species. We are looking for candidates who wish to work on challenging interdisciplinary problems related to correlating the function (as measured by two-photon laser scanning microscopy) and structure (as reconstructed by large scale 3D electron microscopy) of neuronal circuits and have a strong background in electrophysiology, optical imaging, anatomical tracing methods and/or electron microscopy. Technical experience in a related field of engineering, physics, or computer science is a definite plus and proficiency in a programming environment such as Matlab is required.
The NIH has a long tradition of research excellence in structural neurobiology and systems neuroscience and offers a stimulating environment for postdoctoral fellows interested in interdisciplinary training.
Application Instructions:
Please send a CV, a one-page summary of research experience and future goals, and contact information of three references to briggmankl@mail.nih.gov. Please write "Postdoctoral application" in the subject header. Candidates should have less than 4 years of postdoctoral experience.
