Postdoc Opening

Investigator: Claire Le Pichon, Ph.D.
Affiliation:Unit on the Development of Neurodegeneration
Position Type:Postdoctoral Fellowship

The Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institutes of Child Health and Human Development, National Institutes of Health (NIH), Unit on the Development of Neurodegeneration, is recruiting a postdoctoral fellow.

Position Description:
The postdoctoral position is available in the Unit on the Development of Neurodegeneration, under the guidance of Dr. Claire Le Pichon in the NICHD at the National Institutes of Health. This laboratory investigates the early events underlying the onset of neurodegenerative disease. Dr. Claire Le Pichon’s group takes a multi-disciplinary approach that combines mouse genetics with molecular, cellular, imaging, and behavioral techniques to understand the initiator events that seed disease pathogenesis. We seek to identify basic mechanisms common across neurodegenerative diseases with a particular focus on neuronal stress and neuro-inflammatory pathways. These overarching goals are fueled by the idea that the better we understand the events that initiate pathology, the earlier one could intervene and improve therapeutic outcomes. Our work is informed by Dr. Le Pichon's experience working in drug development within the Translational Neuroscience group at Genentech.

The lab is located in the Porter Neuroscience Research Center ( which brings together over 80 neuroscience labs, providing ample opportunity for interaction and collaboration. Candidates will have access to state of the art technology in the laboratory and through NIH core facilities, including light sheet ultramicroscopy for imaging of cleared tissues, generation of novel mouse models using CRISPR-assisted homologous recombination, substantial mouse colony space, excellent support for next generation sequencing applications (RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq, etc.), as well as outstanding stipend support.

Lab Websites:

Interested candidates must have:

- a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD in neuroscience, molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, or a related field
- strong publication record
- organizational and communication skills
- ability to work both cooperatively and independently
- experience with mouse genetics, mouse models of disease, analyses software (e.g. MATLAB, Python, Imaris), and/or next generation sequencing approaches is a plus

Application Instructions:

Please email a brief cover letter stating your scientific interests, a CV, and a list of 3 references (including phone numbers) to Dr. Claire Le Pichon, Please write "Postdoctoral application" in the subject header.
